The firm was founded in the 1840 by Edmund Ames and practiced under the name of Ames & Co. in Cork Street, Frome. Over the next 100 years the firm stayed in the Ames family passing from generation to generation.

In the early 1950’s Robert Kent joined the firm, the name changing to Ames Kent.

Michael Rogers joined the firm in 1979 and became a partner. His daughter Katherine Oakes joined the firm in 2002.

In 2018 Katherine become a partner in Ames Kent.

We are very proud of the work we are able to do with charities.

As of September 2023, we have raised nearly £18,000 for Bath RUH through their September Wills Scheme where we work for free and instead donate our fees to Bath RUH. We will be taking part in the Will Scheme this coming September.

As a firm we have been able to raise £2,518 over the years for Wills Aid partner charities.

We are proud sponsors of Frome Agricultural Society where Michael Rogers is Vice President.

The firm sponsors Frome Festival each year.

We have collaborated with talented local creatives to assist us in creating our new branding and new improved website. Chris from Brahn Design Co. spearheaded the development of our branding, drawing inspiration from the Frome Museum archives. Meanwhile Will and his skilled team at Yellow Peach took the reins in designing our new website.  Our new signage, proudly displayed above our entrance, was installed by the Frome Printworks team, and we enlisted a local Frome photographer to take our staff photos. You’ll notice that the majority of the photos featured on this site showcase the beauty of our local area. We are absolutely thrilled with the outcomes of these collaborations.
